| || Thought for Dec 22, 1997 : Moses Prayer |
One of the great prayers in the Bible is the interaction that Moses had with the Lord about God's presence being with Moses. As worshipers, Christians, and friends of God, we should know what God says about this. The relationship we have with God is in direct coorelation to His Presence being with us. We know His Presence with us, because He knows us and knows our names.The Lord replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us,
do not send us up from here.
How will anyone know that you are pleased with me
and with your people unless you go with us?
What else will distinguish me and your people
from all the other people on the face of the earth?"
And the Lord said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked,
because I am pleased with you and I know you by name."
Knowing that God knows us is the basis of any relationship we can have with our Creator. We love Him because he first loved us. His initiation into relationship is the root of our intimacy with Him. He knows us, and is pleased with us. We can then go on to worship and draw near to Him, since He has given us this opportunity by acknowledging us, and allowing us to be His friends.
O Lord, may we be faithful and honest, as Moses. We know, Lord, that you are with us. Help us to be your friends with integrity.
